November marks Lung Cancer Awareness Month, a time to shine a light on a disease that affects hundreds of thousands of Americans each year. While lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related deaths, it’s also one of the most preventable and treatable when caught early.
At Alliance Cancer Center, we’re using this month to raise awareness about prevention, encourage life-saving screenings, and remind our community that hope and healing are within reach.
Changing the Conversation Around Lung Cancer
For decades, lung cancer carried a stigma that often discouraged people from seeking help or discussing their risks. But the truth is, lung cancer can affect anyone, smokers, former smokers, and even those who have never smoked. Genetics, environmental exposure, and air quality all play a role.
By changing how we talk about lung cancer, we can help more people take charge of their health without fear or shame. Awareness starts with understanding, and understanding starts with education.
Screening Saves Lives
One of the most powerful tools we have in the fight against lung cancer is low-dose CT (LDCT) screening. This quick, painless test can detect cancer long before symptoms appear, dramatically improving treatment options and survival rates.
You may qualify for a lung cancer screening if you:
- Are 50–80 years old, and
- Have a history of 20 or more pack-years of smoking, and
- Currently smoke or have quit within the past 15 years, and
- Are in good enough health to undergo potential treatment if lung cancer is detected
If you meet these criteria, talk to your doctor or contact our team at Alliance Cancer Center. Early detection truly makes a difference.
A Team Approach to Lung Cancer Care
When someone is diagnosed with lung cancer, care requires expertise, coordination, and compassion. That’s why at Alliance Cancer Center, our team takes a multidisciplinary approach, bringing together radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, pulmonologists, and nurses to create treatment plans that fit each patient’s needs and goals.
Our advanced technology allows for targeted radiation therapy designed to treat cancer precisely while protecting surrounding healthy tissue. But beyond the treatment itself, our patients also have access to emotional support, education, and guidance every step of the way.
Because cancer care is not just about medicine, it’s about people.
